| Q |
How often is the SMF data delivered? |
| A |
We receive a feed from the SMF Masterfile on a daily basis. All
updates are received at 18:00hrs (GMT), shortly after the market
closes in London.
|
| Q |
What is the coverage (number of Exchanges)? |
| A |
EDI covers approximately125 Exchanges worldwide.
|
| Q |
Who do we currently supply data to? |
| A |
To the back and middle offices of fund managers, banks and
stockbrokers.
|
| Q |
Where do we get our data? |
| A |
Data is received from the local exchanges in each country &
renowned local/ national data providers.
|
| Q |
Is there a restriction to the number of users (Licenses)? |
| A |
There are no restrictions for data feeds. All restrictions only
apply to web-based products. Where there are restrictions, the
client will need to purchase additional user licenses, which will
allow multiple users.
|
| Q |
Do we scrub the data? |
| A |
Where possible we have secondary sources from a local broker in
each country.
|
| Q |
Can we get some sample data and sample updates? |
| A |
We can set you up with an account on our FTP server and give you
access to one week of daily updates.
|
| Q |
Do the terms `multiple listed sedols' and `secondary sedols' have the same meaning? |
| A |
Both terms simply mean that more than one sedol has been allocated to the same security. All listings have different information sources.
|
| Q |
What is the minimum Technical Specification for EDI’s products? |
| A |
Anything from a 486 upwards is adequate.
|
| Q |
What methods are available for receiving raw data? |
| A |
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol) – We supply a domain name (IP), username and password and zipped feed files are available for download. Either an FTP package can be used or a browser. Note however that access will probably be prevented by your firewall unless permission is granted.
- Bulletin Board Server – Data can also be picked up by using an analogue modem by connecting a BBS. It’s primitive but gets around security and firewall problems.
- E-mail – Some clients receive updates by e-mail.
- CD – Re-alignments of full databases are
commonly sent on a CD but can also be zipped and placed on to the
FTP site if preferred.
|
| Q |
What browsers do EDI test their Web based
products on? |
| A |
IE4 and IE5 and Netscape 6. Netscape 4 & 5 will work but may
be problematic.
|
| Q |
What are the differences between the various
methods for accessing EDI’s products? |
| A |
Web deployed databases – A client is provided with login details and then accesses a centrally located database using a supported web browser.
Distributed databases – A client installs software and database alignment on their own hardware and thereafter pickup and load a regular data feed thereby keeping a parallel copy of a master database at EDI. This is old fashioned technology but has some advantages over the web particularly for systems that hold large archives of historical data.
E-mail Alerts – Clients maintain a
centralised portfolio on the Web using an interface that is based on
browser technology and is supplied by EDI. EDI runs regular
processes that generate reports that are sent to the client by
e-mail.
