Worldwide Initial Public Offering Database

INTRODUCTION

Prior to a new listing on a stock exchange, a company will have an initial public offering, whereby it will offer shares to the public and/or institutions.

It is important for the back offices of investment banks to know which companies have declared their intentions of going public, so that they can set up the issue in their reference databases, whilst the front office has the possibilities of either advising on the IPO or consummating deals.

Not all companies that declare their intention of going public actually do so. They may in the interim, be taken over, fail due diligence or not achieve the valuation that they had hoped for.

Exchange Data International (EDI) monitors IPO’s on a Worldwide basis. EDI uses local Stock Exchanges as its primary source of information, along with additional secondary sources, such as International news agencies, as confirmation.

EDI divides IPO’s into six categories namely Rumored IPO’s, Pending IPO’s, New IPO’s, Withdrawn IPO’s, Postponed IPO’s, and once the event has taken place Historical IPO’s

Overview

The database provides updates on all IPO’s from 108 Countries, and over 150 International Exchanges.

Announcements are captured at 6 different stages:

  • New - indicates that the IPO is complete, (or in action) and the listing date is today or yesterday.
  • Rumour - indicates that the company (or other respected source) has announced the intention to hold an IPO, but before the necessary approval has been made.
  • Pending - indicates that the IPO is confirmed, and the necessary approval has been made.
  • Historical - indicates that the IPO has taken place and the listing date is more than 2 days before.
  • Postponed - an IPO which has been temporarily suspended, pending a further announcement on the operation of the placement.
  • Withdrawn - an IPO which has been permanently stopped due to the company’s or regulatory body’s decision.

SEARCH

The User can select either a search based upon a specific Country of Incorporation or Exchange, Selected Countries or Selected Exchanges (Please see Country Selection and Exchange Selection sections of this user guide for more details) or search for All announcements against all available Countries / Exchanges by keeping the default search options for both criteria.

Please note that the Country of Incorporation search takes priority over the Exchange search, therefore, once you select an individual Country from the drop down list, the Exchange search option becomes redundant and greyed out.

The User can select a date range from the Search from the last drop down box, when using either the Country or Exchange Searches.

The User can select what type of Announcement(s) they wish to view by selecting from the Action boxes Inserted, Updated and Deleted.

In addition, the User can also select the Status of the Announcement New, Rumour, Pending and Historical.

The User can also perform a Security specific search by using the Issuer Name, Security Description or ISIN/Local Code search options.

The system supports a linked search between an Issuer Name and a Security Description, so that you can narrow the results should a particular Issuer have multiple asset classes (Ord, Unit etc).

Once the Search Options have been entered, the results will be displayed once the Global Search or Search By Security button (depending on what Search is being used) is clicked.

The corresponding results are displayed, with the most pertinent information shown to the User. By clicking on the ID column, the User can view all the fields of information.

CALENDAR

The second search option a User can access is the Calendar search.

This functionality allows the User to enter specific date ranges to view either Announced Dates or Listing Dates of Securities.

COUNTRY SELECTION

When using both the Search and Calendar options, the user may wish to search for announcements on a sub-set of Countries. This screen allows the user to select a group of Countries simply by putting a tick next to their choice.

EXCHANGE SELECTION

Same function as the above mentioned Country Selection option, this time at the Exchange Listing level.
